Chapter 6 Reflection
Chapter 6 to me was almost a reiteration to Chapter 5. It mentioned the elements involved in making nuclear weapon such as uranium and plutonium. I like how Kean uses a lot of stories while still focused on the topic. His use of events and certain tones when writing makes the reading a lot easier to do. Kean seems to talk most about the Monte-Carlo experiment made by Stanislaw Ulam and the use of plutonium and uranium. Kean also mentioned many important people like Henry Moseley who discovered that atoms have a certain number of protons that distinguish it from others. This made it possible to find even more elements not listed on the periodic table back then. I didn't like how Kean didn't mention the roles of uranium and plutonium today. Although, he clearly showed the development of nuclear weapons, he didn't show much the other different elements used in the development of these devices. Sam Kean's Chapter 6 was overall exceptional but had to focus more on other elements also found in nuclear science.
