Reflection of Chapter 2

The second chapter, I have to admit, was duller than the first. Although it did teach me a lot about silicon, it didn't teach me about the importance of other elements. I like how he clearly emphasized that he disliked William Shockley for taking credit for work he barely contributed to. Kean's work taught me that there are many uses for silicon besides being number 14 on the periodic table. He mentioned that other elements are on the periodic table without recognition. Some things I didn't know was that the first circuit was used with germanium and the longest word contained a whopping 180,000 letters. I enjoy how Kean always has to put something monumental in his chapters whether it's the title or the tone in which he says things. Sam Kean really teaches you about certain things in chemistry that can't be taught with a textbook.
