Reflection on chapter 4
Chapter 4 was personally my favorite. I love astronomy and cosmology and I am deeply fascinated with the origins of the universe. Sam Kean somehow manages to combine two different fields of science and makes them both educational and intriguing. Kean also mentions many names such as Clair Patterson and the Alvarez duo who have made contributions regarding the time our earth has been here and the bombardments it has faced in the past. I learned how Clair Patterson intricately developed a way to see how old the earth is by using just lead and uranium. I also didn't know that Jupiter's weather patterns involve raining neon. One thing I disliked in particular was how he vaguely spoke about the other planets. I believe that he should have mentioned other elements in the other planets and why some planets can't sustain life. I was also hoping he'd mention something about adapting to the carbon present on earth today. I still enjoyed this chapter very much because it talked about the elements present in our universe and how they make up much of our planets.
